The grapes come from low yield vineyards in the Cima Corgo region of the Douro Valley. The grape varieties used are: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinto Co, Tinta Francisca, Tinta Amarela, Souso, Tinta Roriz and others. The grapes were harvested by hand in September and trodden by foot in granite lagares. The wine is aged for 4 to 6 years in large wooden barrels and
